Mars, Gerdes,Mass and Reinke grab Gopher State Showdown wins
FERGUS FALLS, MN (Oct. 12, 2024 - ) Race fans in central Minnesota got one last chance to see their favorite racer win as a nice field of 233 cars rolled in for FYE Promotions 2nd annual Gopher State Showdown. Heats were run on Friday with B Mains and features being run on Saturday.A nice field of 22 WISSOTA Streets took the green flag for the 25 lap feature with several young heavy hitters leading the way. Landon Randt jumped out front early but had Kolton Brauer and Tommy Pogones along with Ty Agen all very close.With 10 laps to go Brauer and Pogones were side by side.But the car on the move was Cole Greseth who started 20th and moved into 3rd with 8 laps left.With 6 laps to go things got wild as Brauer got by Randt for the lead with Greseth and Agen swapping spots for 3rd,when the checkered flew it was Brauer grabbing the win followed by Randt and Greseth.
The WISSOTA Midwest Mods rolled into town with a nice 47 car field that was loaded.The feature saw a pair of good ones at the front as Nate Reinke and Blake Adams led the field to the green.Reinke grabbed the early lead in the 25 lap feature but Adams was right on his rear bumper,then with 14 laps to go they got into heavy lap traffic and Adams got by Reinke but with 12 laps to go Reinke retook the lead and then here comes Jason Vandecamp to join the battle the last lap was wild as lap cars joined in with Reinke hanging on by a bumper for the win with Adams and Vandecamp on both sides of him.
The WISSOTA Super Stocks were added to the show also as 17 cars took the green for the 30 lap feature.Trevor Nelson got off to a great start as he move from 4th to the lead on lap one.Dave Mass making a rare appearance in a Super was locked in a good battle with Dexton Koch.Mass finally grabbed 2nd,then with 8 laps to go ran down Nelson and passed him for the lead a lap later.Also on the move was Jordan Henkemeyer.Mass held off Nelson for the win withKoch in 3rd and Henkemeyer 4th.
A good solid field of 32 WISSOTA Mods had plenty of star power also.The front row was loaded as two of the best in the business led the field to the green in Brady Gerdes and Buzzy Adams.Gerdes grabbed the early lead with Adams and Landon Atkinson fighting for 2nd.Also moving up was Tyler Peterson as he and Josh Thoennes battled for 4th.With 17 laps to go in the 35 lap race Atkinson slipped by Adams for 2nd.Pretty soon more hard chargers joined the top 5 as Travis Saurer and Joe Thomas moved into the hunt.Gerdes and Atkinson really fought hard but finally Gerdes grabbed the win in a very entertaining race.
The WISSOTA Late Models also brought in 35 cars and the saw Sam Mars and Don Shaw lead the field to the green flag for 40 laps.Mars led early with Shaw not far behind.Dustin Strand also moved up and put pressure on Shaw and pretty soon Tyler Peterson joined in and he and Strand went back and forth but nobody had anything for Mars as he grabbed the win which was his first at I94emr.
A small field of 6 WISSOTA Mod IVs had a great battle as Dustin Holtquist held off Tyler Larson for the win .Dean Larson had plenty to celebrate even though mechanical issues kept him on the side lines as he grabbed the 2024 WISSOTA National Championship.
It was a wild 25 car WISSOTA Hornet feature as they fought threw 6 cautions and it looked like Jeff Rohner had the race in the bag but nobody tole Bobie Arnes as he came out of no where on the last lap and shocked everybody winning the feature by inches.
We have to give a hats off to the Pro Legends as they asked to join the race and they brought in 32 cars and put on a great show.The happiest guy there was the talented Collin Compson as he he held off several charges for the win.Dylan Johnson was very solid in 2nd.
The Cliff Viessman INc Gen X Lates also had 16 cars battle for the 20 lap feature with Tony Croninger getting his 3rd win of the season at I94emr after a great battle with his fellow racers.
